Aorta consists of the photographer duo Marco Grizelj, born 1972, and Kristian Krän, born 1973. They began photographing at an early age, but joined forces at the School of Photography at Göteborg University when they discovered their compability, both in imagery and as people.
After graduating in 1997 they first worked for the Göteborg City Theater. The five following years they worked almost exclusively for foreign clients. During a part of that period, Paris served as their home base.
Aorta’s signature work is semi-documentary fashion photography, characterized as unartificial yet imaginative. The duo thinks cinematically and their photographs are often shot on location. They enjoy entering the idea process at an early stage and they like doing their own retouching.
Their commercial clients include Toyota, SFR France, Dagens Nyheter, Skandia and Rodebjer. The editorial assignments inlcude Bon, Fjords, Odd, and NK Stil.
Aside from working together as photographers, Aorta also collaborate as DJs. They operate a mobile sound system, arrange parties, and since 2002 they run a club, Locus. They live in Gothenburg, where they also have their studio.
